Nearly 408 million smartphones were sold in Q4 2017 a decline of 5.6% compared to Q4 2016 according to Gartner. The research firm says this is the first year-on-year decline since it started tracking the smartphone market in 2004.
- The No.1 ranked smartphone maker, Samsung, saw a year-on-year decline of 3.6% in Q4, while sales of Apple’s iPhones fell 5%.
- Worldwide smartphone sales numbers for the entire year indicated modest gains for Samsung from 20.5% in 2016 to 20.9% in 2017.
- Huawei and Xiaomi were the only smartphone vendors to see growth year-on-year at 7.6% and 7.9% respectively.
