Hutch partners with Fortumo to launch direct carrier billing in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan mobile operator, Hutch, has partnered with mobile payments firm, Fortumo, to offer direct carrier billing to its customers, enabling subscribers hassle-free payments for digital subscriptions to content services through their Hutch post-paid or pre-paid mobile balance.

The service does not require the user to create an account or share personal data and the bill is directly charged from the main account balance in a simple 2-step verification process.

Elsewhere in Asia, Fortumo recently announced the launch of direct carrier billing with the Bangladeshi mobile operator Grameenphone.

A growing proportion of the digital content audience is located in emerging markets such as Sri Lanka. These local users can not be reached through traditional payment and marketing channels. Carrier billing is the most widely available local payment method and we are excited to work with Hutch in making payments on their network available to our merchants.
