Mobile payments firm, Fortumo, has launched mobile operator, 3Denmark, on its direct carrier billing (DCB) platform. Fortumo’s merchants can now collect payments for games and digital content from more than 1 million subscribers of the telco by charging purchases to their postpaid phone bill.
Payment collection from 3Denmark subscribers is available to digital content merchants through Fortumo’s Hosted DCB platform. One integration to the platform enables payments with hundreds of other mobile operators across the world.
In Denmark, 45% of people have a credit card while smartphone ownership is above 85%. The improved reach of DCB and the simpler checkout experience compared to credit card payments has resulted in DCB seeing widespread adoption for digital content payments.
According to SuperData Research, 19% of all transactions for digital gaming content in Denmark are done using DCB. Additional data on DCB in Denmark and other countries of the region can be found from Fortumo’s Nordics market report.
In recent news from Europe, Fortumo has announced launching direct carrier billing with the mobile operator Three in Ireland and with the game developer Epic Games across multiple countries of the region.
Digital content consumption is increasingly taking place on mobile devices and carrier billing provides the best payment experience to consumers in this environment. We are making it easy for merchants to launch carrier billing across many fragmented mobile operators and look forward to growing our partnership with 3Denmark.
