Elisa and Fortumo launch direct carrier billing for Google Play in Finland

Finnish mobile operator Elisa and mobile technology company Fortumo have launched direct carrier billing for Google Play in Finland. More than 2 million Elisa subscribers can now pay for content from the app store by charging purchases to their phone bill.

While the majority of Finns have a credit card, the simplicity and security of carrier billing has made it one of the preferred payment options for digital content, with a 16.2% market share in digital gaming transactions in the country.

This is the second launch of Google Play carrier billing between Elisa and Fortumo – the two companies have been working together in Estonia since 2017.

Fortumo’s direct carrier billing platform is used by Google, Amazon, Spotify, Electronic Arts, Schibsted, OLX, EasyPark and thousands of other merchants. One integration with the platform enables merchants to collect payments from subscribers of more than 350 mobile operators.

Elisa is pleased to launch the service together with Google and Fortumo for its customers. We believe this co-operation will be beneficial to our subscribers and parties involved. Purchasing digital content with Elisa Mobile Payment is safe, easy and reliable way to make payments online.
